An Interesting Note About This
Event: When we started working on
the 2006 Schedule we were excited to see that it was possible for us to
return to the Lapeer event. We'd done the Lapeer event twice
before (2002 and 2003) and Lapeer is a great community. When we
were confirmed by Carol Boom as having the event, we finalized and
published our schedules.
Then a strange, unforeseen thing
happened. We received an email from Carol Boom wanting a copy of
our entertainment rider - which, by the way, she had received months ago
but apparently not looked at closely. We sent her the rider and
*Poof* suddenly Lapeer no longer needed us this year. The excuse
was that "they couldn't accommodate all of the items on (your) rider".
Umm....*ahem*...we've been doing these events for 11 years using this
very same performance rider and one event can't handle it?
We were told it was too outrageous and that no event could do it, yet
over 50 previous events did. We told them that the rider is
actually more of a guideline and that any item is open to discussion and
negotiation. Nope. As far a Carol Boom goes it was a closed
book. Never has any event (other than West Bloomfield) been so
unwilling to work with us. There is not a single item on our rider
that is not there due to something the happened - or didn't
happen - at a previous Relay for Life event, so in essence the RFL
forged our entertainment rider.
