Relay For Life Photos

Clarkston, 2006

An Interesting Note About This Event:
This year was a re-building year for Clarkston.  In 2005 the Clarkston event was held in Waterford because of construction at the usual Clarkston location.  When ANY event makes such a major change it negatively impacts the event (witness Warren as an example).  The Clarkston event was no different.  This year we were subject to the worst logistics we'd seen in almost 60 events.  The stage was positioned so close to the utility building that the door couldn't be opened.  It was also so close to the fence in front of the stage that you couldn't walk in front of the state, you had to walk on the stage to get from one side to another.  This means we had to actually haul our speakers and amp rack over the front of the stage.  Even slightest bit of foresight could have avoided this, but the entertainment chair apparently had no interest in doing things smart.  A 250+ amp rack is not an easy item to maneuver, then add over 120 pounds of speakers and you've got DJs - who are working free - sweating by 10:00.

Then we move on to the schedule.  There was absolutely no consideration given to time frames, and there were even overlapping entertainment events on the schedule at the same time.  This served to set acts behind and to a great deal of unrest, since the entertainment chair promised the stage to 2 different performers at the same time.

The jazz ensemble that was to perform after us were the most rude, self-centered group of performing individuals we've ever met with.  Their main concern was getting on - in fact taking over - the stage before we were able to get off the stage.

This Event is awarded a 2006
Jim & Lance Show Relay Award for:

Worst Logistics EVER

Many people showed up to hear the announcement about the DJs. But there was none.

None of these people even knew that we were leaving after this year.

All these balloons contributing to global warming CO2 output.

Balloons all ready for release.

Balloon launch committee, waiting for the signal to coordinate groups of launching balloons.

"Anyone have a lighter for this thing?"

Balloons ready to launch. The signal to be given any minute.

Last minute trajectory planning and careful measurements are bellowed at waiting masses.

Up, up and away !

The balloons begin their historic flight to some remote swamp or field..

With the excitement of the balloons ended, the stage sees no action.  Casual passersby notice the stage too close to the service building.

Two happy participants.

"Very, very cute"

"This thing really needs a good lighter"

A strangely small version of a rock wall.

"Way over there", Lance exclaimed when asked where the bathroom was.

"Hey, look at my headlights .. will ya!"

"I didn't mean THOSE headlights ,,, silly!"

Several of the "Box People" a nearby tribe of the region, showed up to provide information about their culture.

These people insisted on dancing on the stage which caused a massive dislocation of the equipment and subsequent failure of the stage stability system.

Which resulted in everyone having a great time?

Yeah, everyone had a great time.

A squirt gun warrior loads her weapon.

The track .. that's it .. it is black and white.

People gather at the stage to hear yet another great act.

"Thank you .. Thank you very much"

"I can't see the stage, what are they doing?"

Why, group dancing of course ..

.. at the last group dance from The Jim and Lance Show.

No more of this ..

.. and no more of that.

We will miss you Clarkston. This was not the best year there for us. Rude performers and no recognition. We will remember this event for better years.
